Horseback to Fortuna Waterfall
This is a good challenging of horseback ride and hike. Well horses that will take you until the entrance of the waterfall through pastures, forest and tall hills.The views of the Valley of San Carlos forest that surround it are spectacular. At the end of the road we will leave the horses and we will walk the natural trail to the base of the waterfall. Special place to relax and swim.
Included: The entrance to the waterfall, horses, local guide.
What to bring: Long pants, hiking shoes, towel, hat, sunscreen, swimsuit, camera.
Departure: 8:00 a.m. or 1:00 p.m.

Arenal Hanging Bridges
Arenal Hanging Bridges is a new tourism attraction in La Fortuna de San Carlos, only 4 km (2.5 miles) west of Tabacón within a 250 hectare (618 acre) reserve of primary forest. A visit to Arenal Hanging Bridges consists of traversing 15 bridges from 5 to 100 meters long that cross the rain forest and a 3 km circuit of interpretive trails built with paving blocks to prevent slipping. The impressive vistas of the river canyons originating in the reserve provide a very entertaining way to appreciate the biological riches found in the reserve for persons of all ages and physical conditions.
The bridges are made of aluminum, galvanized steel and concrete, and ensure maximum security for our visitors. They were designed by structural engineers with the most demanding safety margins in the world.
The chance to appreciate the highly diverse flora and fauna along with the imposing vistas of the Volcano from the hanging bridges over the forest, make a perfect combination for an unforgettable experience.

Hiking to Arenal Volcano National Park or Silencio Trail
You’ll travel 25 minutes to the far west side of the Arenal Volcano to begin the tour in Arenal National Park. You’ll cross the river, and spend about 2 hours exploring the park. Your expert bilingual naturalist guide will find the animals, point out indigenous rain forest plants, and educate you on a few. Your reward at the end of this trail is the path created by the 1992 lava flows. You have time to explore, and your guide explains the history of this magnificent volcano. One of the day’s highlights is the spectacular hilltop view of the sunset over Lake Arenal.
After the hike, enjoy a beverage and listen to the extraordinary sounds of the volcano. And if the cloud cover is high enough, you’ll witness a dazzling display of falling lava rocks. You’ll hear the sounds of the rain forest, to the accompaniment of frogs, toucans, insects, and thousands of lightning bugs.
Your tour continue with a refreshing three hour thermal hot springs visit. Tabacon Resort is the number one attraction in Costa Rica, and considered by many the most beautiful hot springs in the world.

All tour options include the national park entrance fee, beverages, on expert bilingual naturalist guide and round-trip transportation. Bring hiking shoes and (during the rainy season, sandals to cross the river and keep your hiking shoes dry), camera with plenty of film, binoculars, poncho and insect repellent.
The park trail is wide and flat making it easy for any fitness level.

Rafting Sarapiqui / Class III - IV

Caño Negro Wildlife Refuge
Caño Negro Nature Preserve offers some of the most abundant bird watching opportunities in the world. Located near the small town of Los Chiles, it’s (3 miles) from the Nicaraguan border.
The tour begins with a 90 minute drive in our air-conditioned bus through some of Costa Rica’s richest farmland. Your expert bilingual naturalist guide will point out some of Costa Rica’s agricultural bounty, including orange groves, passion fruit, papaya, yucca, cocoa, rice, corn, beans, bananas, plantains, sugar cane and ornamental plants. Following a 15-minute break in Los Chiles, you’ll board a comfortable covered motor launch on the Rio Frio. Frequent sightings include three types of monkeys, bats, and two types of sloth, iguanas, “Jesus Christ” lizards, turtles, caimans, mammals and diverse species of flora and lowland birds.

The Tico-style hot lunch (typically chicken and rice, yucca, squash, fresh pineapple and a selection of drinks) is a chance to relax on the river bank. (Vegetarian food is available on request). After lunch, back on the river for more animal viewing.
After a quick break in Los Chiles, enjoy a relaxing return ride to La Fortuna. Wear comfortable clothing and athletic shoes or sandals. Don’t forget binoculars, camera with plenty of film and insect repellent. |
